Hypnotherapy Works. It can help you to change your habits and feel in control.
Whether it's smoking, diet, fears or even stress-related physical problems, you can make real and lasting changes to the way to feel and the way you do things.
Hypnotherapy relaxes your body and mind, allowing you to make the changes you want to make on a subconscious level. Breaking bad habits and changing unwanted emotional responses can be easier than you think. By using visualisation and suggestion techniques, hypnotherapy helps you to irradicate bad habits and negative thought patterns, so you can chose to do things differently and be in control of your choices and your behaviours.
The mind is separated into the conscious and the subconscious. Learnt behaviours and habits are subconsciously controlled, so even though you know you want to make changes to your behaviour or emotional responses, the subconscious mind needs to be taught the new way of thinking. For example, smokers consciously know that smoking is dangerous, but that conscious knowledge does not bring about a change in their behaviour. You need to make a change to your subconscious beliefs. But how?
By becoming really relaxed through a guided relaxation exercise, your subconscious mind becomes increasingly receptive to new messages and changing old unwanted beliefs.
Under hypnosis it is possible for a hypnotherapist to provide the relevant suggestions directly to the subconscious mind, which will bring about changes in the subconscious, bringing it in line with the conscious mind. You consciously know that you want to stop smoking or feeling anxious, or over eating, but your subconscious mind just encourages you to keep on practising these bad habits as it has learnt this behaviour. As I mentioned before, just knowing that you want to change a behaviour is often not enough to be able to bring about a lasting change; you need to learn new behaviours and strategies to override the unwanted habits. It’s possible to retrain the subconscious mind to think that you do not want to or need to smokine cigarettes or experience phobic reactions, by providing a new and more appropriate subconscious framework.
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get the same result!
Being under hypnosis is just a state of deep relaxation, very similar to the relaxed and calm feeling you have just before you go to sleep, or if you start to drift off while watching the TV. You can still hear the programme in the background, just as you can still hear the hypnotherapists voice, but your attention might drift as the new suggestions are absorbed on a subconscious level. All you need to do is relax. You can speak and move as you wish during hypnosis. It's easy. All you are asked to do is imagine the things the therapists describes to you as best you can.
Some people may be concerned that they will not be fully in control during hypnosis, but this is not the case. You will not say or do anything you would not normally do, remember hypnotherapy is merely a state of deep relaxation, which leaves you feeling refreshed and calm. It's a very pleasant experience!
